Communication – Your Path to Action (Key Actions)

Do you ever check the stories in your head to see if they are true?

You do know that it is all made up, don’t you?

We see or hear something and ask ourselves, what does that mean? And, then we answer that question with the information and experience we have in our head. So, now we have a story that we made up. We then take that story as the truth. So much so, that we can defend what we have made up in our head to others as true.

How many times have you done that? Have you ever got into a debate because you believe what you have told yourself, without checking it out before you speak it.

I know I have heard this saying….there is your truth, and there is my truth, and the real truth lies somewhere in the middle. I never really thought about that before and now that I am becoming more aware of the stories I tell myself, I can see that as statement that rings true.

So, how do we get to the real truth?

Communication Your Path to Action

The first thing you need to do is to share your stories….yours and mine. I share the story(my assumptions, the meaning I attached to what I saw or heard) I have made up and how I made them up and ask others to share how they came to their conclusion and the assumptions they made.

Here’s the thing, we all have information coming at us all the time. Because of our experience and circumstances, we “notice” things, sometimes these “things” are the same that other people notice and sometimes they are not. Sharing what we have noticed helps us to get on the same page and at least the same wavelength.

Key Actions

  1. Reframe the story
  2. Work backwards to check your assumptions and the meaning you attached to what you saw or heard!  – Challenge Your Assumptions (CYA)
  3. Ask yourself could it mean something different?
  4. Ask the other person…What did you mean?

I love the acronym CYA. Thanks to Regan Lewis for giving this to me. And, no, it doesn’t stand for what you think. It stands for Challenge Your Assumptions. By challenging what we have told ourselves to be true, we will learn more about yourself and become more aware of what thoughts drive your actions.

Always CYA and get curious to check out the stories you have in your head and ask yourself How do I know that is true?

Remember “it is all made up!!” based on your assumptions!

Hope this all makes sense……or is it all made up!

Always……CYA – Challenge Your Assumptions!
Because it is all made up!
